NAF'S Thematic Areas aligned with the CSR policy (Indian Companies Act 2013)

The enactment of section 135 on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Companies Act 2013, provides an opportunity as well as a challenge for the Corporate India. The vital areas of opportunities involves more pro-active and strategic role in nation-buiding; creating shared value through mutually beneficial partnerships with Govt. as well as the civil society; leveraging the core business strength and acumen to support the development sector; enabling corporate India to become a pillar of participative democracy thus ensuring a sustianable future for all. Challenges include-setting up/revamping CSR processes; building/ramping up capacity to spend as per community & environmental needs; designing and developing effective CSR interventions; finding credible implementation partners and complying with mandatory reporting etc.

Watershed and Natural Resource Management Project in Odisha

This project was implemented by NAF during 2015–16 with support of M/s Epsilon Carbon Private Limited (formerly M/s AVH Private Limited) under their CSR initiatives in Sambalpur district in Odisha state. The project activities included awareness creation to farming community, channel clearance and check dam repair and related training.

Training program with Sundaram Fasteners Limited (SFL)

Sundaram Fasteners sponsored farmers training program titled “Training of Farmers on Farm productivity Improvement and Agri Value Chain Enterprises” was conducted during 2014-15. More than 250 farmers in batches participated in this residential program wherein various agri technologies to be followed from seed – harvest of various crops were covered extensively.

Training Program on Agriculture Productivity Improvement with TAFE

Under the CSR support of TAFE, NAF trained farmers nominated by TAFE on Lean Farming Technologies for Crop Productivity Improvement. 250 farmers from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh participated in the residential training program.

Training Program for Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) farmers

NAF trained the farmers associated with TSRDS on agriculture productivity improvement during 2014-15. Farmers from Jharkhand and Odisha attended the training program on hi-tech vegetable cultivation at NAF Centre for Rural Development.

NAF as a Knowledge Partner in Agriculture and Water for HCL Foundation

M/s HCL, a leading software company has launched a project “Samudhay” in Uttar Pradesh as a part of their CSR initiatives. Accordingly, they are planning to create model villages wherein agriculture development, health, sanitation, water, education and infrastructure would form the focus verticals of development. Under this project, HCL identified NAF as their knowledge partner and signed MoU with NAF. During 2015-16, NAF extended field advisory services and development of technical protocol for Agriculture and Water. In the current year, NAF is providing services in the areas of project planning and implementation for Agriculture Development, monitoring and evaluation, post project sustainability and on farm field advisory in project villages in Hardoi District of Uttar Pradesh.

Integrated Community Development project supported by Larsen & Toubro Limited

NAF is implementing two Integrated Community Development projects in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu covering eight villages under CSR support of L&T since 2015. Total project area of both watersheds is 3613.52 hectares with treatable area of 2497.55 hectares. Project activities include watershed and natural resources management – soil and water conservation measures, construction and rejuvenation of water harvesting structures, training and sanitation etc. About 3200 beneficiaries would benefit from this project.

Community Partnership Initiatives with iNautix – BNY Mellon

NAF is an empanelled field partner for Community Partnership Initiatives and Employee Volunteering Program for BNY Mellon – iNautix since 2013. Employee Volunteering programs are conducted in NAF Project areas wherein the volunteers contribute their time and efforts in various field activities like watershed, treeplanting etc.

Under CSR support of iNautix Technologies, NAF is also implementing a Comprehensive Rural Development Initiatives project in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra since June 2016. Project activities include agriculture development, natural resources management, training and capacity building, Formation/ handholding and strengthening of water user groups/ women farmers/ farmers clubs and sanitation.

Flood Rehabilitation Program (Support from M/s Bahwan Cyber Tek)

M/s Bahwan Cyber Tek (BCT), an IT MNC is supporting repair / reconstruction / rehabilitation of lakes and water bodies which were affected by the floods in Kancheepuram District. The rehabilitation work is being undertaken in the villages and is expected to be completed by December 2016.

Pre-capacity Building Projects: (As Part of Corporate Watershed Program Of NABARD)
Watershed Project under Global Grant support of Rotary International

NAF is working as an implementing agency for Rotary Club of Coromandel’s watershed project in Krishnagiri District under support from Rotary International.Accordingly, NAF conducted a reconnaissance study and identified watershed location in Kuppachiparai village of Krishnagiritaluk in Krishnagiri district. This project is implemented through Corporate Watershed Program of NABARD with 50:50 financial sharing.

Watershed project with M/s VA Tech WABAG

M/s VA Tech WABAG Company, one of the largest waste water recycling industries had initiated a watershed development program for 1500 hectares under their CSR with financial sharing mode from NABARD on 50:50 sharing basis. Accordingly, one watershed location was identified in Thirukazhukundram block of Kancheepuram district. Preliminary field reconnaissance visit was carried out. WABAG has signed the MoU with NABARD for financial sharing (on 17th March 2016) and with NAF for program implementation (7th March 2016). Field activities have been taken up accordingly.

Watershed Project with M/s Bannari Amman Sugars

M/s Bannari Amman Sugarsis supporting 1500 hectares of watershed development program under their CSR with financial sharing mode from NABARD on 50:50 sharing basis. Accordingly, one watershed location has been identified in Sathyamangalam block of Erode district. Preliminary field reconnaissance visit was also been carried out. Recently an Mou has been signed with NAF for program implementation .

Agriculture Development Project supported by Apollo Tyres

Apollo Tyres have signed MoU with NAF for implementing an agriculture development project in Eraiyur village near Oragadam in Sriperumpudur block of Kancheepuram District under their CSR support. Field activities would include promotion of farm machineries, comprehensive soil testing, agriculture demonstrations, training and pre season crop camps and agri advisory. The project period is from September 2016 to March 2017.
